Newbury Racecourse is a racing venue found in the gorgeous surroundings of Berkshire, England. The venue, which hosts racing meets all year round, boasts both flat and jump courses. The first racing meet to take place at Newbury was in 1805 and was entitled the Newbury Races. This was an annual two-day event that continued until 1811. Now, Newbury Racecourse is celebrated for being the host venue for the Ladbrokes Trophy; a Grade 3 National Hunt horse race open to horses five years old and above. The race is commonly referred to by its previous name, the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, with Hennessy Cognac having sponsored the race for over 50 years before Ladbrokes.

This race is run every year in November or December and covers a distance of 3 miles and 2½ furlongs. Throughout the race, participating horses must overcome twenty-one fences, making the event a true exhibition of jumping ability and pace.

It was first run in 1957 in Cheltenham before moving over to Newbury in 1960. It is regarded as one of the most prestigious and important handicap chases held at Newbury.

Noteworthy winners of this iconic race include Cheltenham Gold Cup winners Bregawn (1982) and Burrough Hill Lad (1984). The race has also been won by King George VI Chase winners One Man (1994) and Teeton Mill (1998).
